Since there is constant controversy about how true and false being vegan can benefit your health I went on the quest to see if there was ever a true study on wether being vegan can improve your health, and I found The China Study.
In the China Study, T Colin Campbell, PhD and Thomas M Campbell, MD study the connection between a persons diet and heart disease, cancer and diabetes. They took the study all the way to china where it is known that Chinese people have a tendency to eat little to no meat snd high carb and vegetable in take.
It is no secret that the number one cause of death in America is heart disease and cancer but can the food we eat really affect our chances of contracting those diseases? The question is yes. In Dr. Campbells studies he makes a huge point in stating "we don't eat the same way we did back in the 18-1900s. Our bodies were not meant to break food down that we our "nourishing" it with today". He makes an extremely good point, back then we didn't have the processed foods and ample amount of meat and animal based products we do today. Cancer and heart disease wasn't killing us one hundred years ago so why is it killing us today?
During the China Study Dr. Campbell and his colleges went to all areas of china, some places had a higher intake of meat and animal based products than other parts of the region. Once all of the studies were conducted over the years Dr. Campbell and his team concluded that not only do you have a higher risk of heart disease and cancer if you consume animal based products but that you can completely avoid those two major diseases by simply eating a whole fruit and vegetable enriched diet. This was taken by the fact in areas of china where people consumed animal based products over the years most developed higher blood pressure and even cancer but the areas where only a whole based diet was consumed, there were no signs of debilitating health concerns.

Once again this topic is so intriguing. The China study really shows the benefits of just having an intake of fruits and veggies. The point that is shown about how way back when people really were not having problems with their hearts is very apparent. That is a solid fact as to why being vegan is extremely beneficial. With that being said, would it be beneficial to just cut out processed foods and see how that effects the body? I know that some people are strong believers in the idea that meat is the only way to get protein so, how would you convince them that vegan-ism is a yay?
ReplyDeleteI’m curious about what specific meats are the cause of heart disease, cancer, and I assume just type 2 diabetes were reported in the study. Many years ago, wasn’t meat considered more of a treat because it was so hard to come by? Also, can I argue that maybe one hundred plus years ago, the medical technology wasn’t advanced enough to detect cancer? I would be interested to know, of the vegan community, how many cases of cancer are there and what percentage within that community? I had a professor tell me that the Asian community learn to live with their cancer and embrace it. I do understand how cutting out certain meats can prevent heart disease, but don’t understand the effect veganism has on diabetes and cancer and would love to know more!
ReplyDeleteThis study was similar to others. Vegan=good, meat=bad. I think that any person who is eating nutritionally, getting the right amount of vitamins and nutrients for their body and of course exercising will be healthy. Many people eat vegetarian or vegan foods and do not even realize it. Oreos are vegetarian and so are the french fries I ate today at McDonalds-even if they were fried. I find it interesting that very rarely are there negative reports of veganism and in contrast you can find numerous articles, blogs and more on the way eating meat is harmful. Your mention of cancer being impacted by diet is one I would like to see you explored further.
ReplyDeleteAny meat with fat is known to cause heart disease. I dont believe that meat=bad it just isn't the only thing that can give us protein. Being vegan does NOT mean you are healthy. You can be vegan and like you said, eat pounds of fried food. Having a wholistic diet is completely different, a plant based diet. The video will go into full detail about how animal meats have been proven to be a factors in some cases of cancer.
